When I was growing up, my parents would take me to the Royal Canberra Show each year. Mum and dad were heavily involved in the agricultural show communities in both Canberra and Bungendore where I grew up and always did more than their bit to pitch in. It was at the Royal Canberra Show that I discovered a love for these savoury seed sprinkles that a vendor sold. It was a once a year purchase and I’d always feel so disappointed when the container was finished. Mum would use the seed mix to top salads, believe me they totally took the humble lettuce leaf to a whole new level .
I haven’t been to the Royal Canberra Show for many years now but hearing that it was held again recently made me think back to this simple seed mix. I don’t recall the ingredients of the ones mum used to buy, but I think my recipe creation comes pretty close.
Seeds provide us with many nutritional benefits as well as healthy fats. They’re also a good source of fibre and have been found to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol.
